At Mechanicsville, you will find people that love God and one another, who are committed to impacting the world for Christ and who are genuinely glad you came! We have those who wear their Sunday best and those who wear shorts and T-shirts. We'll be glad to see you no matter what you are wearing.
If you have infants or children, you can confidently take them to Kidzville where they will be registered, given a name tag and cared for in an exciting, age-appropriate environment.
Our service runs no more than an hour and fifteen minutes. It has a contemporary feel and connecting with God is the main focus. Our worship includes singing, drama, testimonies, prayer and an offering. If you are visiting, please don't feel obligated to give. Consider the service as our gift to you.
Each week you can also count on being offered communion. This celebration of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, represented by the bread and juice, is offered to all followers of Jesus Christ. If you'd rather not participate, that's okay! Just pass the tray to the next person.
You can expect a creative, practical talk from the Bible that will challenge and engage you. We want God to speak clearly to you on how to deal with the ups and downs of life from His perspective.
Our desire and prayer for you is that you will have an incredible worship experience with the God who loves you and that you will develop an intimate personal relationship with Him. May God open your eyes to all that He has for you.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

What is unique about Scott:
I really give credit to being raised in God loving home. I am who I am because throughout my life I have been directed to God and the love that He has for me. It has been modeled for me. I am so thankful and am blessed to have been raised in the love of Jesus Christ.
Why you are in the ministry:
Growing up, my family was at church whenever the doors were open, for regular services or in an emergency. Our building flooded a couple of times and I remember going and helping. I had a blast! I saw youth ministry from behind the scenes and I felt God leading me in this direction back in the 6th grade. I never wavered from that path. God had taught me some hard lessons over the years but the biggest one is to trust Him no matter what and He will be faithful! I love what I do!
Harry Swain
In 1946, after completing his apprenticeship and working at the Newport News Shipyard, Harry answered God's call into the ministry. He enrolled in Cincinnati Bible Seminary that Fall and was graduated in 1950. He then moved to his first full-time ministry (there were several part-time ones while in college) at Pole Green Church of Christ in Mechanicsville. Since then, Harry has ministered to a number of churches, all in Virginia; during most of those years he also worked full-time in a "secular" job. Since his retirement from the full-time preaching ministry, he has continued to serve in numerous capacities, including elder, Sunday School teacher, supply preaching, visiting sick and shut-ins, and working with the Golden Age Home.
Harry currently lives in Mechanicsville and has two grown children, Buddy Swain and Sherry Grubbs, both of whom graduated from Christian colleges and are active in their home congregations.
